| I have to say (though a little late), that nothing makes me sadder than the Whole Hog Project.
I certainly respect foodies, the right to eat and enjoy meat, and the much needed reporting on where food is coming from, but this article is the most infuriating read- the biased philosophy of saving an endangered species by getting people interested in eating it, the cruelty, the anti vegetarian rallying, the propaganda. Its bizarre, and it pisses me off.

| last night my closest friends and I met up at my house and devoured thai food while watching the polls. When we won Ohio, we couldn't help but be swept out the door to all of the excited porch sung "wahoos." We hopped on the el, and in 2 stops made it downtown to the hope march.
We shifted from jumbo screen to jumbo screen in Grant park. On one screen we watched holograms on at 10pm he won. Everyone was screaming and jumping up and down as if it was new years eve. We hugged and cried and strangers of every age and class and race became friends. We kissed and ran in trains from screen to screen. It was absolutely amazing to share the speech not just with my friends, or the goofy kids who snuck in the booze in front of us, but next to a black mother and daughter, holding eachother so tight and crying in awe. 5 minutes into his acceptance speech, the older woman exclaimed, "Oh my god...he's the President." and speaking that outloud helped us all realize the magic too.
we don't know whats to come...I doubt it, but its possible that this can be the worst president of the universe, but it's important that for this night...for this week...and god willing, much longer.....bigitry and racism was set aside and we all united under the stars, on our tv sets, streaming on the internet, to see that you can grow up to be the president. Humanity is real.

| omg, the cat in the user pic is so unhappy right now....bath time.
Anyway, some good things to offset the bad things:
-new guitar from one of my best friends in the world. He pumped up an Epiphone SG, to rival its Gibson nemesis, have gold hardware, 57 Classics and it is entirely too awesome and every time I pick it up, I can magically play every note in Huey Lewis' "Power of Love," EVEN THE SYNTH PARTS! Seriously, I will not stop thanking god and the man who helped with this for a long long time.

-new bike! Mine was stolen about a month ago, my third theft in Chicago, that's city livin' for ya. Anyway, I woke up reaaaally early to get to Working Bikes Coop and somehow I was 2nd in line for their Noon opening. By 11, there were 40 people in line waiting for the Willy Wonka rush to pick out their newly fixed up used bike. Being one of the first in the door, I was able to score a sweet Schwinn

| Every few years, I am reminded of something horrible that is living among us, something that is always a threat and once it chooses you as its victim, you have very little chance of recovering quickly.
I'm talking about parasites. And right now, the nightmare is fleas.
My roommate and I threw a giant party in July and really stirred up some bad vibes in the neighborhood. Despite our common sense, we decided to let DJs set up outside in the yard and have the dance party there. It was a fantastic party we couldn't believe we got away with, cops came several times and left, we made great friends with one neighbor who let us jump, clothes on, into her kiddie pool throughout the night, we made great enemies with our other neighbor who indian gave permission for our Saturday night celebration and decided to keep rallying the police whom confessed they thought she was exaggerating the problems. We had huge messes that took weeks to clean, we have party guests who were fighting that we had to kick out, a window was broken, some friends got laid, we had a lot of silly memories and it was really the biggest party I had ever allowed in this place.
My penance: fleas. Someone carried them in, and in just a couple weeks, my poor indoor cat of 10 years was covered.
We gave her front-line, hot washed everything, bought a new vacuum and sucked up every fabric, sent rugs to be cleaned, sprayed flea poison everywhere, did a second round of front line, tried Hot Shot flea bombs, but about three weeks in, we CANNOT GET A HANDLE ON THIS.
Today, Orkin is coming and I will be spending my afternoon at a laundromat running about 35 loads. Rosemary and I cannot stop thinking about the bugs, as they appear to be everywhere and superhuman even if we try so so hard to stop them.
I have been severely creeped out and staying at Brian's, and coming back in the day to clean more and more. And the worst part is...this flea problem is overshadowing all of the great amazing things that have been happening. I can't even bring myself to write about magical wonderment because there may be a larvae wriggling around at me feet.
This problem...fleas, bedbugs, parasites, makes me think I could never really make it in New York. | comments: 1 comment or Leave a comment |

| On Saturday, 4 of us are driving to St. Louis to see Bruce. It will be my third time, and for the others, their 6th or 7th. I love hot dads...and though I hate st louis, I expect to have a blast with my loved ones.
Band practice is getting more serious at twice a week. I would happily go up to every day.
I'm really into kites now-- fighter kites, box kites, frog kites, crotch kites.
All of the good, positive, curious, wonderful energy you were born with seems to get beat down day by day..it might be buried in my toes or in a some wormhole beneath my heart. A Kite, a kite just throws a string around that and lifts it right up and out for your enjoyment.
Tonight is the Printer's Ball- a con for all things written. Every Chicago zine, publication, poem, and short story will be on display at the MCA. I love my town...i need a smaller camera with an image stabilizer to document more of it. | comments: 2 comments or Leave a comment |

| It feels like Autumn, which is offensive to me; I patiently waited 7 months in the cold for beach bimbo weather and all I got were these lousy sandals. Oh well. Survey says Chicago takes its coffee differently these days- 100 degrees in October, Ice in June.
In fact, we all seem to set our clocks to the new weather schedule...I have more lake house trips planned for September/October and because being around warm water brings me more joy than 7 oreo cookies, I look forward to them so much.
OK, a couple things:
ChaCha, is a free texting service that sends any question you can possible ask to a live person's computer. This person can earn 20 cents by ransacking the internet for the most appropriate answer and returning your text. I've sent many a questions to chacha (242242) and this is my favorite example of how useful this service is when you are arguing with friends over drinks: Robin: "Did Bobcat Goldthwait REALLY marry Nikki Cox?" ChaCha: "Bobcat and Cox were happily engaged in 1999; however, they ended the engagement in January 2005."
Second, it has come to my attention that rats, when tickled, will laugh. This fact, amongst other environmental and economical pushes, has kept me vegan since June. I'm proud of myself I guess, and happy to no longer have migraines....ever.

| Yea, I can't really find it in my heart to blog all the time! But I guess I can update you's guys on things...considering that I secretly read your entries and try to stay up to date with everyone else!
Some updates:
- I'm having an awesome summer in Chicago...and about to embark on many a road trip. The first being a 4th of July, Atlanta visit with nothinganything and sonatamoonlight and Tom Waits. Then a few darts around to Montreal, LA, Charlotte, and any where else that someone welcomes me!
-I was working an awful full time job for a while, with horrible hours that affected my health and well being, but I am currently free with the justification that "Hey! I'm not knocked up! I can do what I want for now!" and that includes traveling, bike riding, and writing music.
- Yea, Music! I finally started playing with a nice band, a couple of fellas that happen to be my friends anyway, so it's great to finish up some things and see how far we can take it. I play guitar and sing, and wish to god that I could afford that 1971 SG I've been salivating on at Chicago Music Exchange. I'm also still promoting music and picking up freelance contracts with my own dainty lil company Best Nest Media. It's perfect thus far, picking up work when I need money, and cruising the good life until it runs out (see, "not knocked up" above).
- I'm healthier (and vegan). Yep, last year I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Thyroiditus, which turned out to be nothing but trouble in every way possible. It was affecting me physically and mentally, and after a sea of doctors, someone finally checked my blood work and found out that if I started hormone therapy I would be pretty damn stable. More recently, I took the vegan challenge and found out that it curbs my life killin' migraine problem...so I'm sticking with it. It's way easier than you'd think. There's even a vegan fast food chain near my house.
- Brian and I are still together and we just hit the 3 year landmark. Time flies and things are great. Finally someone understands my respect for Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell.
And, thats all I can think of! See, I lost my motivation for this already. Hope everyone is rockin' spaghetti | comments: 3 comments or Leave a comment |
| it's getting to be that time for some live performances, and I am just fed up 7000 percent with the SM58. It's in stellar condition, so is the PA, and no matter how much EQing...I am forever muddy sounding.
Can anyone recommend a mic to try or an eq trick? something?
Think deep full female voice, somewhere between college rock and old jazz...pj harvey, fionna apple, amy winehouse?
I hear E835 is ok? any help, please please please. | comments: 6 comments or Leave a comment |

| hi. im afraid of macs. please help me decide which laptop will be small, full of memory, strong with manly wirelessness, easy to move my (gulp) stolen versions of adobe things to, and have the best warranty program so i can fix it after i foolishly take it on a bike ride sans carrying case.
im scared to make electronic purchasing decisions.
i never really enjoyed my time spent with friends' macs, but everyone makes me feel so uncool. what happens if i make an investment in a pc, and just get progressively uncooler for the next 3-4 years as macs come out ahead of the game.
what if i choose the wrong cup, and instead of drinking eternal youth, i get immediate nazi death?
these are my concerns and i cant sleep. | comments: 3 comments or Leave a comment |
